Engaging the Online Student

A Presentation to McMaster Continuing Education, 2021.09.29.

Abstract

Online instruction made education possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, but we still worry that it doesn't provide as meaningful a learning experience as the physical classroom. In this talk, Prof. James Skidmore will discuss the strategies we can adopt in online courses to engage students with their course content, their instructor, and their classmates. A former University Teaching Fellow and eCampusOntario Open Education Fellow, Prof. Skidmore has over 15 years of experience with online education. He has won three awards for his course designs, and recently taught Waterloo's first-ever graduate seminar on online teaching and learning.
